Vasectomy Reversal Financing: Budgeting for Surgery
The cost for vasectomy reversal is actually a composite of three different costs: the surgeon’s fee, the day surgery fee, and the anesthesiologist’s fee. Because insurance rarely covers a vasectomy reversal, it is important for you to talk in detail with my financial/insurance specialist at the time that we first meet to discuss the possibility of your surgery. Dr. Larry Lipshultz's friendly staff can discuss&nnbsp;vasectomy reversal financing with you at our Houston practice so that you have a clear understanding of the total cost.
We have tried to keep the cost as low as possible, and the hospital has cooperated with this by giving a single cost that does not vary based on the length of surgery or the amount of equipment used — very different from most surgical center fees.
The only additional fee would be for sperm banking. Many couples decide to bank sperm that is found at the time of vasectomy reversal as a type of “insurance” for their future considering that, perhaps the results of the surgery may not always be as high as anticipated. The details of sperm banking, as well as those related to the total cost for the vasectomy reversal procedure, will be discussed with you in detail at the time of scheduling surgery. In addition, once you establish contact with the office, some information can be mailed to you in anticipation of your visit.
- Cancellation Policy:
If your surgery needs to be canceled, we should be notified 2 weeks prior to the date of surgery. If you do not notify us two weeks prior to surgery, a late fee will be charged. If you are not from the Houston area, you will be responsible for your transportation fees to and from the facilities, as well as accommodation fees. We will be glad to help you find a nearby hotel.
- How long is the procedure?
Operating time for a vasovasostomy or epididymovasostomy is approximately 3 hours. A general anesthetic is preferred, but a regional anesthetic (spinal or epidural) can be selected. We prefer that out-of-town patients stay in Houston for at least 1 day after surgery.
- Post Surgery Follow-up:
Postoperative follow-up includes an evaluation of wound healing at 2-3 weeks and a semen analysis at 6-8 weeks postoperative. Bi-monthly semen analyses are then recommended for approximately 4-6 months, or until results of the semen analyses stabilize. If you do not live in the Houston area, we will assist you in finding a physician and laboratory near your home with whom we can communicate for postoperative evaluations.
- Financing:
We accept all major credit cards, cash, check, and money orders.
At this time we do not participate with any finance entities such as Charity Care, Gold Card, Care Credit, etc. However, there are entities that may provide financial assistance:
Medical Loan Finance
United Medical Credit
